Lost And Found
a summer session work in progress
July 31, 2003

Lost and Found was a six week summer project that explored the themes of losing and being lost; and in contrast, how we find ourselves again and again. The class was as eclectic a group as I have ever worked with -- several middle and high schoool students, with WAC dance majors and other UCLA undergrads from a variety of departments, as well as visiting national and international students. A hard working, talented and amazingly cohesive group. In six short weeks we developed material and an ensemble spirit that was mature and profound in its simplicities and complexities.

I lose everything but I am not lost
In the dark stumbling
I can’t find my way to the other side.
And what is the other side, where is the other side?
I am lost in a world of hate, the rain beating at my face.
I find myself wondering what I truly possess?
I wonder if you are mine,
If I have finally found you.
In my mind, I find solace; in my heart, there is passion.
And when I find my path, I know good will be waiting.
Still, true balance lasts but a moment.
And will there be what I am looking for on the other side?
Will I find meaning?
Will I find beauty?
For beauty is relative. It is found in the way we move together.
Towards the end of the path, there is a light that fills my heart with hope,
Finally hope.
And when I finally let go of what I came here to find, I find what I came here to lose.
In losing my way, I found you. In losing myself, I find myself.
I lose everything but I am not lost.
