Current statistics and all recent studies show there’s
a serious drop-off in funding for programs once students reach
middle and high school – the teen years. Of course,
we all know that’s exactly the time when young people
need the most attention and opportunity, when there is constant
pressure to get involved in things
which might negatively affect the rest of their lives.
The Flourish Foundation
a
non-for-profit private philanthropic organization -- was begun
as a response to this lack of funding.
After only one year in existence, our funding has benefited
nearly 4,000 young people and community members
in the Los Angeles area.
What We Do …
We
create and develop arts and educational programs and projects
that benefit underserved and/or underrepresented Los Angeles-area
middle school, high school and college-aged students.
We help teachers
and administrators create or expand arts programs in their
school and community sites.
We make it easier
for teachers do their jobs: we provide buses for field trips
and funds for entrance fees for student festivals and competitions;
we help support the purchase of instructional and classroom
supplies, as well as production related materials and staffing:
designers, choreographers, coaches, videographers and editors,
etc.
We plan and implement
artist residency programs and guest artists into schools for
performance and instruction. We hire and pay the salaries
and fees of talented young arts professionals from a variety
of arts forms to go into schools and share their passion,
artistry, knowledge, and skill with LA-area students.
We award scholarship
money and emergency tuition grants to high school, undergraduate,
and graduate-level students who have financial need and demonstrate
a commitment to education, the arts, social issues, mentoring,
and community service.
We mentor a new
generation of classroom teachers and arts instructors from
these underserved communities by offering training and employment
opportunities so that they may return to their neighborhoods
and schools, thereby functioning as both instructor and role
model within their community.
We
are very hands-on in the creation, development, and ongoing
nurturing of each project. We care about teachers and artists
committed to young people and the health of our communities.
Our grant applications and procedure are very artist and teacher
friendly – and we encourage you to take advantage of
funding opportunities.
